Buying Shisha

Hey all,

So I've been scouring these forums so I don't post a duplicate question... if I missed the thread, then my apologies!

Anywho, I'm looking into the various shisha brands to buy (thanks for all the tips in the reviews section!) but my only question left is how much to buy?

For now, just as I sample the different brands to find my favorites, I'm buying 50 grams worth, but how many bowls does this usually fill? I saw the bigger ones of like 250 grams, so how long does that usually last?

Uhhh. There are a lot of variables. Assuming you are using a "normal" bowl (Syrian or MYA or something similarly sized), you'll probably manage 5-10 bowls out of a 50, though that is HEAVILY dependent on how much you normally pack. I tend to pack pretty lightly, so a 50g can last me a while (assuming, of course, I don't use my Phunnel). For now, 50g packs are the right size to buy, but if you really really like a flavor there's no reason not to go up in size.

Ya. just stick to 50g packs while figuring out what kind of flavors you enjoy. Once you get a good feel for it what you enjoy you can get more adventurous as there are some great brands that do not offer 50g samples.

A 50g pack will usually last between 2-5 bowls depending on packing method and the size of the bowl.

By numbers that means that a 250g pack should last somewhere between 10-25 bowls. Again depending on the size of the bowl. Most small Egyptian bowls take around 10g of tobacco. Larger ones range closer to 20g. Funnel bowls can hold upwards of 35 grams of tobacco

It all depends,

I am always down to try different flavors, so I usually pick up the 50g of new things. However, my girlfriend is a huge fan of the Rose Shisha, and whenever I have a guest who has never tried hookah, I pack a bowl of Mango Shisha. I keep a 250g pack of each of those flavors. So my best recommendation would be to find out which flavors are mostly used, and go off of that.

Also, price usually affects some decisions. At my local shop, it costs me 4 bucks for a 50g pack (buy 2 get 1 free), and the 250g is 12.50. So I also recommend checking your local distributor and seeing how the prices are.

There's also the option of buying a box of hookah shots which will you give a very small sample of a lot of flavors. Problem is, not every company makes hookah shots so you are only getting to taste one or two versions of the various flavors.
