Tired of just plain water in the base?

There are a lot of things you can do with the water in the base to greatly enhance the flavor of the smoke, change the effects of the smoke, or just add a little extra something to the taste.

Like Nima has said numerous times, ice in the water makes a world of difference. When I smoke at home, I never go without it. If you haven't tried this, I insist you give it a shot.

Rose water is a great add-in to the water, especially when you smoke flavors like jasmine and mint. Those are my favorites with which to use the rose water, anyway.

While I worked at the hookah lounge, a certain man was telling me of his travels to Iraq. At one place where he went, they used red wine in the base with rose petals. I've often heard of using liquor, but I've never tried.

One of my friends from Kazakhstan keeps insisting that I use milk with a flavor like vanilla or coconut. I haven't tried it, but I plan to.

Other suggestions:

• Lemon juice - great with mint, apple, strawberry
• Orange juice or orange blossom water- good with any tropical fruit flavors, or maybe just fruit flavors in general
• Vodka
• Vanilla extract (just don't add too much) - coffee flavors, strawberry
• Fresh mint sprigs - good with jasmine, rose

I understand it's used in Persian cuisine a lot, right? Tasty stuff.

The only good thing about flavoured water that you can buy in the shops is that there are so many flavours you can choose from, go buy the flavour of water to best compliment your choice of tobacco and enjoy, Milk has its pro's and cons, its very viscous so the pull (sucking) of the pipe might hurt some peoples cheeks, but it adds a thickness to the smoke that ive never seen before.

Putting any type of alchol inside the hookah water needs to be done with caution, too much and you will choke, i once tried filling the vase with cheap vodka and it nearly choked me to death, however putting about 4 tots into the vase with the water adds a new flavor all together to your smoke. Lets hope people try these and come back with good results.

I've actually been using milk replacing the water for quite some time now. It's pretty good if you ask me!
I've noticed a little bit of thicker smoke

Just don't forget to clean everything out after smoking! I found that out the hard way. I got lazy one day after smoking with a bunch of my buddies and just poured the milk out for an easy clean.. And let's just say it wasn't pleasant .

But overall, I recommend it
