Hookah Coals Guide
Choosing the right hookah coals is very important. Both type and size of the coals are important. They can affect how much and how fast the tobacco burns and whether the coal adds any flavor to the tobacco.
There are two main types of coals: Natural Coals, Fast Burning Coals.
Natural Coals
Natural hookah coals are, well, natural.
- Pros: They are cheaper. They usually don't add flavor to the tobacco.
- Cons: They take a long time to start burning. They burn too fast. They have too much ash.
Fast Burning Coals
Fast burning coals don't burn faster than natural coals. The "fast burning" part refers to the coal burn start time. They light up much faster than the natural coals.
- Pros: They start burning very fast in less than a minute. They last longer.
- Cons: They cost more than natural coals. Some of them add unwanted flavor to the tobacco.
While some fast burning hookah coals add unwanted flavor to the tobacco, that is the case for all of them. Belgian hookah coals and Three Kings hookah coals are two examples of that.
Correct use of coals is very important for a perfect smoke and is called heat management. Read our complete guide to hookah heat management.
