Coconara Coconut Coals

I have tried a lot of coals in my time as a hookah smoker.  I am a big fan of coconut coals and the first brand I tried was Coconara Coals.  These coals are fairly small.  They are only about an inch square and have a height of about half that.  I had a full box of these so I had plenty of opportunites to try them.  the heat they give off is not pretty good.  I would say on the high end of medium, which is good for controlling heat.  I found that two of these on a small Egyptian bowl works fine.  A medium bowl can work with two or three depending on the tobacco you are using.  For something as large as a “small” Tangiers funnel bowl you will need four.

I like Coconara coals but there is one major problem.  The price.  These are some of the more expensive coals on the market for how much you get.  They are also quite a bit smaller than some other coconut coals but very dense.  It does not really cut the duration at all but that means I can’t balance them on edge to get very accurate heat management.

These are natural coals and you will need a stove to light them.  Not a problem for me but it’s something to be aware of when deciding what to buy.

7 out of 10.  If the cost were lower and they were a bit bigger these would be almost perfect.
