I have gone over apple in the past and if you have been reading my posts you know my displeasure with most attempts at accurate apple flav0rs.

This apple flavor is interesting but it’s already one of the best apples I have tasted yet.  Social Smoke Simply Apple smells kind of like a good red apple scented candle.  I know that sounds a little unpleasant but stick with me here.  That’s the best approximation I can give you that I think the average person will understand.  It smells kind of like apple flavor concentrate that is used in brewing and food preparation.  It’s not too artificial and it’s very sweet.

The flavor is exactly the same.  It’s a little cloying at times and reminds me of being in Yankee Candle in Boston every once in a while.  one of my friends that is not a big hookah fan actually found the room note pretty unpleasant but that guy is a big biker type so what the hell does he know about pleasing scents other than beer, bourbon and cigars?  Not much.  Haha!  It’s good to be aware that some people may not like this flavor and find it’s scent to be a little to strong for them.  It’s always good to be considerate of everyone around you.

8 out of 10.  For an apple this is pretty close to the top of the list.  On the scale of all tobacco it’s decent and tasty but a little too sweet for me sometimes.  I am looking forward to mixing this one with othe flavors and enjoying a smoke the is easily recognized as actually being an apple flavor for once.

I have expressed my opinions on the subject of apple flavored tobacco before but it’s worth a refresher.

Apple is an extremely difficult flavor to replicate and I have yet to find a really good red apple flavor.

That being said, Starbuzz Sweet Apple is a pretty good apple flavor.  It’s not the perfect apple flavor that I am searching for but it is pretty damn good.  It tastes like a sweet red apple candy and is a smooth smoke.  As is expected, it’s a blend that produces very nice clouds and is easy on the lungs.  There is no tobacco flavor and unlike many of the more traditional apple flavors there is no hint of anise.  Many people avoid apple tobacco because of exactly this.  If this is a problem for you then this is a good option.

The flavor is a bit artificial but far more natural than many of the other apple flavors I have had.  It suffers from one of the faults that other apple flavors have.  It’s a bit waxy at times.  It has an almost oily texture to the smoke at times.  This can be a bit off putting but it’s not anything to make me stop smoking it.

7 out of 10.  This is one of the better apple flavors I have ever had and to this point it’s one of the top red apple flavors.   As stated earlier, if you are not a fan of the more traditional apple flavors but still want to try apple tobacco this is a good option.  It’s not perfect and I have to rate it down a little because of the high price but it’s worth a try.

This was another flavor that was given to me courtesy of Nima here at Hookah Lounge.  This is the first flavor I have tried from the Exotic line by Al Amir.  This is their “premium” line and so far it’s treated me pretty well.  This is a triple apple flavor which means that it’s a sweet apple flavor with only a hint of anise as opposed to the double apple flavor which is heavily spiced.  The tobacco was dripping wet and finely chopped.  I smoked this out of my Khalil Mamoon double trimetal in a vortex bowl with three coconut coals and regular foil.  I figured it would be able to handle some good heat and I was right.  Wet tobacco like this is usually fairly heat resistant.  The clouds were impressive and dense.  The flavor was a light apple flavor at the beginning that picked up one the heat worked it’s way through the bowl.  Once warmed up I would say it was a light-medium apple flavor with a distinct sweetness.  There is still a little bit of anise flavor but it is barely there and only serves to make the smoke a little more complex.

I would give this blend a 7.  My major problem was how light the flavor was.  If it were stronger I would be a big fan of this flavor and would recommend it to everyone looking for a good apple flavor.  There were just too many times that the flavor faded to almost nothing while smoking and the flavor did not last for the full hour that the coals did.

Pharaohs Triple Apple

Brand and Flavor: Pharaohs Triple Apple

Shisha Tobacco Cut: A very fine chop. Not as shredded as HH but some of it is almost paste like.

Hookah Type: KM double trimetal. Nammor hose

Duration: 45 minutes or so.

Bowl: Small tangiers funnel

Foil / Screen: Regular foil

Coal / Amount: 2 CH QL coals

Smoke:  Thick smoke with large clouds and a good mouth feel.

Buzz:  Light and pleasant.

Smell / Flavor: Smells like a double apple.  It smells sweet and like a light apple with a nice anise.  The flavor is similar but a black licorice flavor takes a seat in the front.  It’s not terrible.  I greatly dislike black licorice.  I do enjoy the flavor of star anise when used to compliment other flavors.

Rating (1 to 10): 7   It’s good but there is room for improvement.  The apple flavor is very subdued and the presence of a black licorice flavor does not make me like it anymore.  I would prefer if that flavor was more of natural anise flavor and I wish the apple was a little more pronounced.  Frankly I wish it was Nakhla double apple.  Still the best double apple I have found.  As a change of pace though without the beastly buzz that nakhla can carry with it this is a wonderful option.  Not everyone likes to be knocked around by their hookah.  If you are interested in trying out a good “double apple” but are wary of the particular flavor this may be a good transition.  It’s smooth and flavorful without being too strong.
