This was another flavor that was given to me courtesy of Nima here at Hookah Lounge.  This is the first flavor I have tried from the Exotic line by Al Amir.  This is their “premium” line and so far it’s treated me pretty well.  This is a triple apple flavor which means that it’s a sweet apple flavor with only a hint of anise as opposed to the double apple flavor which is heavily spiced.  The tobacco was dripping wet and finely chopped.  I smoked this out of my Khalil Mamoon double trimetal in a vortex bowl with three coconut coals and regular foil.  I figured it would be able to handle some good heat and I was right.  Wet tobacco like this is usually fairly heat resistant.  The clouds were impressive and dense.  The flavor was a light apple flavor at the beginning that picked up one the heat worked it’s way through the bowl.  Once warmed up I would say it was a light-medium apple flavor with a distinct sweetness.  There is still a little bit of anise flavor but it is barely there and only serves to make the smoke a little more complex.

I would give this blend a 7.  My major problem was how light the flavor was.  If it were stronger I would be a big fan of this flavor and would recommend it to everyone looking for a good apple flavor.  There were just too many times that the flavor faded to almost nothing while smoking and the flavor did not last for the full hour that the coals did.

Brand and Flavor: Al Amir cherry.

Shisha Tobacco Cut:  Dripping wet.  Chopped up and paste like.

Hookah Type: KM double trimetal.  Nammor hose

Duration: 45 minutes

Bowl: Vortex bowl

Foil / Screen: Regular foil

Coal / Amount:  3 CH QL coals

Smoke:  Ok smoke.  Nothing amazing but not too bad.

Buzz:  Light buzz

Smell / Flavor:  Smells like cough syrup, which is about what I expect from a cherry hookah tobacco.  The flavor is lacking and does not taste like cherry.  It barely tasted like cough syrup.

Rating (1 to 10):  5 I give this one a middle of the road rating.  The flavor was not like a real cherry, which would be a deduction on it’s own, nor did it taste like artificial cherry.  So that brings it down to about a six all on it’s own.  Then there is the matter of the smoke.  I have been spoiled by tobacco that produces good flavor and large clouds.  The smoke from this was medium and not all that impressive.  That’s the last point that drops it to a five.  So there you have it.  If you want a cherry flavor there are lots of other options.  Check it out if you want to here but there are much better cherry flavors out there.

Brand and Flavor: Al Amir Orange

Shisha Tobacco Cut:  Hoo boy was it wet.  Not Fantasia levels but very drippy.

Hookah Type: KM double trimetal.  Nammor hose

Duration: 45 minutes

Bowl: Vortex bowl

Foil / Screen: Regular foil

Coal / Amount:  3 CH QL coals

Smoke:  Great smoke.  thick and puffy.  Light mouth feel

Buzz:  Medium to light buzz

Smell / Flavor:  Smells like orange skins and artificial oranges.  The flavor is similar but sweeter.  I would not say that this tasted like orange juice or the flesh of an orange but it was tasty and citrusy.

Rating (1 to 10): 6  I think this was a tasty flavor but it’s major down fall was the fact that the flavor faded about half an hour in.  I am used to enjoying strong flavor for close to an hour so this was very short by comparison.  It’s not a true orange if what you are looking for is the flesh of the fruit but it tasted more like if you blended the whole orange together and drank the results.  Tart and slightly bitter like licking the outside of the peel but sweet and a little chemical tasting like an artificial orange candy.  If you are interested in trying this or any other Al amir flavors out you can purchase them here.  This brand is not half bad and not very expensive either.  Some flavors are a real bargain.

Al Amir: Pomegranate

Brand and Flavor: Al Amir Pomegranate

Shisha Tobacco Cut:  Really REALLY wet.  Finely ground and dripping.

Hookah Type: KM double trimetal.  Nammor hose

Duration: 45 minutes

Bowl: Vortex bowl

Foil / Screen: Regular foil

Coal / Amount:  3 CH QL coals

Smoke:  As with Al Amir blends I have smoked so far the smoke took a long time to pick up.  Once it did this flavor had nice and thick smoke that was good for rings.

Buzz:  An ok buzz.  Light.

Smell / Flavor:  Smells like grenadine that has been watered down.  This makes sense considering that grenadine is pomegranate flavored and heavily sweetened.  It tastes like a sweet pomegranate but candy rather than natural.

Rating (1 to 10): 7.  I was pleasantly surprised by this one.  I could tell it was supposed to be pomegranate and it tasted nice while not being fake or chemical.  If you like pomegrante this is a good choice in hookah tobacco.  Personally I am a big fan of pomegranate.  This flavor has some room for improvement but it’s one of the better pomegranate flavors I have had up to this point.  Go for it if this sounds interesting.  It’s at least worth a try.
